We have gained extensive experience conducting technical evaluations or due diligence for new technologies and have worked on all phases of projects, including feasibility, preliminary front-end engineering and design (Pre-FEED) studies, front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies, government funding applications, pilot skid design, detailed design, and project implementation. We are a recognized leader in the carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) marketplace and have completed well over 100 related projects in the last five years. Our experience spans across power plants, cement manufacturers, liquified natural gas, steam methane reforming, and other industrial facilities, using a range of technologies, including solvent-based capture, membrane technologies, cryogenic systems, direct air capture technologies, and more. 

We have extensive experience working on all phases of a project, from feasibility through project implementation. We have worked with a wide range of technology suppliers on both privately and publicly funded projects that have supported the overall advancement and development of CCUS technologies. Our scope of work on these projects includes conceptual design, process design, host site integration, FEED and front-end loading (FEL) studies, project management support, detailed design, construction management, commissioning, and ongoing operational support.

We have knowledge and experience in the full range of process design, including process simulation, equipment sizing, equipment specification, cost estimating, commissioning, and optimization for process components. In addition, key relationships with suppliers and fabricators allow for the comprehensive design and implementation on a variety of projects from pilot-scale to full-scale installations. We also have extensive experience completing projects under Department of Energy cooperative grants.

Most notably, we completed the Petra Nova Carbon Capture Project, developing multiple FEED studies and serving as owner’s engineer for the project execution. It subsequently won the Best Project of Merit award from Engineering News-Record.

We have been actively involved in the alternative fuels industry as part of our core power business for many years. We offer an extensive list of alternative fuels services, including feasibility studies, fuel supply assessments, fuel conversions, technology selection, siting evaluations, emissions assessments, layouts, cost estimating, project development support, and other conceptual design activities.

Ammonia and other clean fuels such as methanol, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and synthetic natural gas (SNG) derived from clean hydrogen sources provide substantial opportunities to reduce emissions from existing, hard-to-decarbonize markets. In addition, biofuels and biomass-based energy systems provide a pathway to energy through conversion of organic matter into fuel or power. These systems provide solutions for emissions reductions and sustainability.

We have a wide range of experience with alternative and clean fuels as part of our focus on power generation. This work has involved plant optimization based on performance and design information from original equipment manufacturers, material handling vendors, and air quality control vendors to ensure new or existing units can be fuel-flexible to meet new and expected emission reduction targets. Renewable natural gas (RNG) systems convert methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere into a clean, sustainable energy source that can be used to power vehicles, homes, businesses, and industry. Biogas production reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and when used to displace fossil fuels, can result in carbon negative systems. For the last 10 years, we have been on the forefront of the industry and specialize in landfill, dairy farm, and other anaerobic digestion projects.

We are a proven industry leader in RNG projects and can provide preliminary engineering desktop reviews and cost estimates through full detailed engineering and execution. We have worked with multiple technology suppliers that capture and process RNG, which is comprised primarily of methane. Compared to fossil natural gas, RNG contains zero to very low levels of constituents, such as ethane, propane, butane, pentane, or other trace hydrocarbons.

We verify the design basis and conditions of service with technology suppliers and offer full facility design solutions to clean the gas, compress it, and pipe it to desired locations and pipeline transfers. We have completed numerous RNG projects in recent years and, in some cases, we have developed company operating and maintenance manuals for state public utility commissions.

As some projects include seasonal load changes, we are experienced in designing reverse flow options from distribution to and from transmission systems – pending client requests – to offset peak demand. With a diverse employee pool of engineers and legacy operators of gas utility companies, we provide a complete service offering from concept through commissioning.
