More than 15,000 power and electrical engineering professionals will gather near Sargent & Lundy’s Chicago headquarters May 4-7 for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Power & Energy Society Transmission and Distribution Conference & Exposition. The biennial conference brings together utility leaders, planners, consultants, infrastructure designers, and others to showcase the latest research and innovations to strengthen the grid and meet rising demand.

Sargent & Lundy’s grid specialists will be at Booth 1856 to discuss how the firm helps clients move projects from planning and design through construction and commissioning. The team’s experience spans distribution substations, transmission switchyards, overhead and underground transmission, SCADA, telecommunications, distributed energy resource management, and interconnection planning – including large-load interconnection support for data centers, manufacturers, and other major energy consumers.

During the four-day conference, Sargent & Lundy will take part in instructional sessions and presentations on grid resiliency and meeting the power demands of data centers and other large-load energy consumers.

  • On May 4, Andrew Steffen, a senior manager and subject matter expert with more than 15 years of experience in substation design, relay/protection upgrades, and major utility infrastructure projects, will join consultants from throughout the industry for an all-day session on grid resilience with grid forming.
  • On May 5 at 1 p.m., Manish Jain, a principal consultant for transmission planning and power system studies, will lead a panel of system operator and data center leaders to discuss “Challenges for Large-Load Interconnection and Operation.”
