What began three years ago as a concept to recycle used nuclear fuel into a strategic national asset is now moving into engineering execution as Sargent & Lundy and Curio® take the next step in developing an innovative technology to transform the nuclear industry.
Curio has proven the science behind its NuCycle® advanced nuclear fuel recycling technology and is now advancing toward commercial deployment at industry scale. Drawing on more than 70 years of commercial nuclear power experience, Sargent & Lundy is helping advance the effort by providing siting, environmental support, licensing and permitting support, and development of the facility design, beginning with conceptual design work for the NuCycle process building and its supporting infrastructure.
The NuCycle technology is designed to enable a more sustainable nuclear fuel cycle by recycling fuel for use while significantly reducing the amount of high-level radioactive material that remains.
Sargent & Lundy’s engineering and design work will help translate Curio’s proprietary process into an integrated facility that supports safety, maintainability, scalability, and future licensing from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
