“Setting Up Carbon Capture Pilot Projects: Do’s and Don’ts,” an article published in Turbomachinery International, features Sargent & Lundy’s Kevin Lauzze discussing the critical role and implementation of carbon capture pilots for meeting decarbonization goals.

The article is based on a presentation, “Lessons Learned from Carbon Capture Pilot Projects,” Lauzze gave in February at POWERGEN International 2025, a large-scale conference focused on sustainable energy advancements.

In his presentation, Lauzze points out that amidst increasing electricity demand driving a resurgence in gas-fired power, carbon capture pilots are crucial for achieving decarbonization goals. Drawing from Sargent & Lundy’s successful pilot projects, including Project Enterprise for ION Clean Energy and the Large Pilot at the Wyoming Integrated Test Center for MTR Carbon Capture, he emphasized the importance of these pilots in advancing carbon capture technologies and highlighted the need for flexible design and budget considerations.

Lauzze noted that data centers and their sustainability goals are significant drivers for carbon capture growth, while also emphasizing the importance of securing DOE funding, reducing risks, and aligning with stakeholders for successful implementation.
