Sargent & Lundy Chairman, President, and CEO Victor Suchodolski was honored with the Chicago Tribune’s Top Workplaces Leadership Award based on anonymous employee survey responses. The recognition coincides with the industry-leading engineering design firm scoring its highest spot ever at No. 4 on the Tribune’s Top Workplaces list of best employers with over 1,000 people.

“I’m flattered and deeply humbled by this recognition,” Suchodolski said. “I’m certainly not in this job to win accolades, but knowing this one comes from the people that put in the work everyday to make sure we’re at the top of our game in earning our clients’ and partners’ trust means the world to me, and I can’t thank our employees enough for their support.”

The leadership award is based on the results of surveys conducted last June by the employer research and consulting firm Energage, measuring employee engagement, company culture, and compensation and benefits. Specifically, the score was based on responses to the question, “I have confidence in the leader of this company.”

Employees elaborated further in the comments responding to the question, “What about the leader of this company inspires your confidence?” Character, communication, confidence, and caring for employees were traits mentioned repeatedly in the responses.

“He really cares about the employee experience which upholds the core value of Our People,” said one anonymous respondent. “He is approachable and clearly dedicated to Sargent & Lundy and its staff. He does not just sit in his corner office but rather comes down to other floors for meetings and says ‘hi’ to staff as he does so.”

Suchodolski was elevated to CEO in 2023 after 26 years with the firm. Starting as an electrical project engineer, he worked in roles throughout the company, building a deep understanding across engineering disciplines and strengthening client relationships. He continues Sargent & Lundy’s long legacy of having an engineer lead the firm.

Sargent & Lundy was named a Chicago Tribune Top Workplace for the 10th straight year and recently earned three more Fall Culture Excellence Top Workplaces awards for its commitment to employee appreciation, employee well-being, and investment in professional development. The firm swept all five Spring Culture Excellence Awards for compensation and benefits, innovation, leadership, purpose and values, and work-life flexibility. The firm has been a national Top Workplaces honoree for the past four years and its Delaware operations have also earned regional Top Workplaces honors since 2019.

Sargent & Lundy is hiring in Chicago as part of an effort to fill over 1,000 positions throughout the company. Opportunities for engineers, designers, project managers, and support staff in the U.S. and internationally can be found at sargentlundy.com/careers.
