Project Description
The consortium of Sargent & Lundy, TIC – The Industrial Company, and Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc., is collaborating to provide Entergy Texas with EPC services to build the Orange County Advanced Power Station. In 2022, the Public Utility Commission of Texas approved Entergy Texas’ proposal to build the 1215‑MW combined-cycle power plant near Bridge City, Texas.
The advanced 2x2x1 natural gas-fired plant will operate more efficiently and cleanly than the existing plant it’s replacing and is capable of using hydrogen to generate electricity. The plant can power more than 230,000 homes. It’s expected to save over $100 million in fuel in its first year of operation and provide more than a billion dollars in net benefits to customers over its life.
Project Scope
Sargent & Lundy serves as the engineer of record for this large-scale, advanced power plant, which is the firm’s first J‑class combustion turbine design. Sargent & Lundy and TIC are also leading the commissioning management for the new facility. Mitsubishi is supplying its hydrogen-capable powertrain, consisting of two M501JAC enhanced air-cooled combustion turbines, a steam turbine, a Nooter Eriksen heat recovery steam generator, and an advanced control system.
