Project Description
The Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant is a boiling water reactor 40 miles northwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul. Sargent & Lundy provided security consulting, conducting a protective strategy redesign to efficiently maintain robust asset protection strategies against the design basis threat.
Project Scope
Physical security specialists from Sargent & Lundy worked closely with Xcel Energy’s security management and staff to meet all stakeholder, licensee, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements. Tasks included:
- Identifying critical target set components.
- Recommending design changes to mitigate target set impact.
- Evaluating protective strategy options.
- Designing alternative physical security protective strategies.
- Designing appropriate defensive measures to maintain security system effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
