Founded in 1891, Sargent & Lundy has core competencies in power and energy, tracing its work in electric power to the illumination of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. Its original offices were located in the Rookery Building, less than a mile from its new location. Today, more than 1,200 of Sargent & Lundy’s 4,000 employees worldwide work at its existing 55 E. Monroe St. headquarters – its home for the past 50 years.

This move marks a significant milestone for the firm, which is currently experiencing tremendous growth to meet the rapidly increasing needs of the power and energy industry. Sargent & Lundy ranked fourth among the Chicago Tribune’s Top Workplaces in 2024 and has been on the list since 2015. It has also been consistently included on the Top Workplaces USA list since it was first published in 2021. The firm is seeking to fill 300 positions in Chicago and over 1,000 positions companywide. As illustrated by this relocation, the firm is increasing its corporate footprint to accommodate this growth.

The firm currently leases more than 282,000-square feet of office space at 55 E. Monroe and will occupy more than 380,000 of space at 77 W. Wacker.

Sargent & Lundy has partnered with global design firm Gensler to create a highly agile, modern, and functional workplace that leverages the building’s river views and abundant natural light. The building has U.S. Green Building Council LEED Platinum status for energy efficiency and sustainability.

Sargent & Lundy is represented by Joe Learner and Robert Sevim at Savills. CBRE’s Michael Kazmierczak, Kelsey Scheive, and Aaron Schuster handle leasing at 77 W. Wacker and represented building ownership in the transaction.
