August 6, 2019 — RUTE Foundation Systems, Inc. engaged Sargent & Lundy to perform an independent review of a one-of-a-kind wind turbine foundation concept to tackle a widespread industry problem: the increasingly large foundations required to support more powerful wind turbines. The concept used precast, post-tensioned concrete elements as the foundation to support one of 18 turbines at the Palmers Creek Wind Farm in Granite Falls, Minnesota. Sargent & Lundy was subsequently selected as the independent engineer (IE) for execution of the project, which was completed in late 2018.
The wind project recently received the Post-Tensioning Institute’s (PTI) prestigious 2019 Award of Merit in the Industrial/Special Applications category for its ingenuity, cost-effectiveness, functionality, constructability, and aesthetics. The project team, including Sargent & Lundy, was recognized for its input to the design-build success.
