In 1995, a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony inaugurated the joint venture between U.S.-based Sargent & Lundy and Indian conglomerate Larsen & Toubro. Thirty years later, the partnership takes on major production initiatives in thermal and renewable energy. Leaders from both companies recently gathered with more than 1,000 employees and their family members to celebrate the JV’s 30th anniversary.
The JV is responsible for developing over 150 power projects in India and across the globe, including the world’s largest combined-cycle project in Saudi Arabia, India’s first ultra-supercritical power project, and the world’s second-largest desalination plant. Collectively, the JV has engineered and designed more than 115 gigawatts of electrical capacity worldwide, including more than 30 GW in wind and solar power. L&T-Sargent & Lundy Limited has been recognized with several national awards in India for engineering quality and corporate citizenship.
