The Department of Energy awarded a $400 million grant to the Tennessee Valley Authority under its Generation III+ Small Modular Reactor Program. Sargent & Lundy is a partner on the project intended to accelerate the nation’s first Generation III+ SMR deployment at TVA’s Clinch River nuclear site near Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Sargent & Lundy brings almost 135 years of engineering expertise to this project, and the firm has been at the forefront of the nuclear industry since its inception. Implementing the pioneering BWRX-300 SMR technology in the U.S. will further cement the firm’s decades-long relationship with TVA. Sargent & Lundy, TVA, GE Vernova Hitachi, Bechtel, and the project team aspire to create the model to deliver on the promise of safe, reliable, and clean energy to meet the region’s growing needs.
