May 8, 2024 – Sargent & Lundy’s Women’s Professional Network, an employee resource group, sponsored Argonne National Lab's Women in Science and Technology Science Careers in Search of Women conference, held April 10 at Argonne National Lab. The conference brought together high school girls from the Chicago area to explore the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics field.

The firm’s women’s network works to dismantle barriers and build a strong pipeline of women in engineering and related fields by fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and actively sponsoring initiatives that inspire young women to pursue careers in STEM.

In addition to sponsoring the event, the group sent employees Susan Goodridge and Emily Wielbik to host a booth where they shared information about careers in engineering and related fields, answered student questions, and provided guidance on pursuing STEM career paths.

The students also participated in a variety of activities designed to spark their interest in STEM career fields, including:

• Meeting with women scientists and engineers from Argonne National Laboratory.
• Participating in panel discussions on various STEM topics.
• Completing career assessments to identify their strengths and interests.
• Engaging in hands-on activities and experiments.

By bringing young women face-to-face with STEM professionals and showcasing real-world applications of science and technology, the SCSW conference ignites a passion for these fields at a young age. This valuable opportunity allows these students to explore STEM careers in depth and see themselves as future leaders in science and engineering.
