Site Selection and Feasibility Studies

Sargent & Lundy's approach to site selection studies integrates the appropriate disciplines in the most cost-effective manner. By integrating engineering, environmental, and economic disciplines, we ensure rigorous evaluation of worthy plant sites and elimination of sites that fail to meet basic siting criteria. Our site selection approach also documents the siting process for input to environmental impact assessments and other reports that may be required by government agencies.

Recent projects

Sargent & Lundy recently applied its considerable nuclear plant design expertise to perform three in-depth, confidential new nuclear plant site selection studies. Each study evaluated information on approximately 15 to 20 sites for nuclear power plant development suitability based on a thorough analysis of issues such as:

  • Space availability
  • Population zones
  • Water availability
  • Seismicity
  • Soil conditions
  • Hazardous material proximity
  • Security
  • State laws affecting nuclear power

Feasibility studies

We also recently developed several new nuclear plant feasibility studies. These typically provide net worth assessments of existing nuclear facilities and recommendations for various options relative to new nuclear plant development. The expertise and experience gained from our confidential nuclear site selection studies and our nuclear plant feasibility experience are especially appropriate for new nuclear plant development.
