Utilities Service Alliance Selects Sargent & Lundy as Engineer of Choice

Agreement supports alliance’s coast-to-coast utility members with nuclear power expertise


January 5, 2020 - Sargent & Lundy has been selected by Utilities Service Alliance, Inc. (USA) to be an Engineer of Choice (EOC) supplier providing engineering services and projects for the USA fleet members for the award duration of up to five years.

As of January 1, Sargent & Lundy is delivering a range of design-related products to the alliance including engineering modification packages, calculations, and equipment specifications; supplemental CADD support; conceptual design; and estimating services. As EOC, Sargent & Lundy’s mission is to leverage measurable duplications and similarities, service acquisition advantages, and efficiencies in contract implementation and reports to reduce costs incurred by USA’s fleet members.

This award will capitalize on Sargent & Lundy’s broad spectrum of disciplines and resources, including electrical and mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, instrumentation and controls, nuclear component engineering, nuclear technology and regulations, nuclear plant services and analysis, nuclear plant piping engineering and analysis, project controls and management, quality assurance, civil/structural engineering, design, and drafting.

USA is a not-for-profit cooperative designed to facilitate collaboration among its eight member utilities, which currently include American Electric Power (Cook Nuclear Plant in Bridgman, Michigan), DTE Electric Company (Fermi 2 Power Plant in Newport, Michigan), Vistra Corp. (Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glen Rose, Texas), Energy Northwest (Columbia Generating Station in Richland, Washington), Nebraska Public Power District (Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska), STP Nuclear Operating Company (South Texas Project in Wadsworth, Texas), Talen Energy Corp. (Susquehanna Steam Electric Station in Berwick, Pennsylvania), and Xcel Energy (Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant and Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant in Minneapolis, Minnesota).

Sargent & Lundy has been continuously involved in designing successive generations of new nuclear power stations and supporting operating nuclear plants for more than 65 years. The firm is currently providing engineering and related services to more than 100 operating nuclear units in addition to supporting multiple new nuclear power plants under design and construction.
