Mr. Richard W. Knoebel, Senior Vice President, is responsible for overall coordination of the SLC Group’s consulting activities. He actively reviews the status and progress of work and participates in major discussions and decisions on projects. Mr. Knoebel joined S&L in 1978 and is a licensed professional engineer and a licensed structural engineer.

Since joining S&L as a structural engineer in 1978, Mr. Knoebel has risen steadily through the project management ranks to his current role as Director of S&L’s SLC Business Group. Early during his tenure with S&L, his project work encompassed structural engineering activities involving an array of power generating technologies, such as coal, natural gas and oil, and nuclear. Mr. Knoebel’s responsibilities then expanded to senior-level engineering, continuing through project management and direction. Mr. Knoebel spent much of his time during this period at project construction sites overseeing the implementation of project designs and resolving field construction issues with contractors. During the years leading up to his current position, Mr. Knoebel served as project director for a diverse client base on a wide array of assignments. In 1995, Sargent & Lundy created the consulting services organization to support activities involving non-traditional clients such as lenders and developers, Mr. Knoebel was one of the founding members of that business group. He led the efforts of various S&L project teams staffed by consultants and technical support personnel in the support of development and financing of new units in the United States and overseas. He has worked closely with the non-technical staff of lenders and developers on projects to help them understand the planning and scheduling of the projects under consideration and the risks involved in the development of large projects under the EPC delivery model. This involves establishing clear project objectives, design parameters, and operating philosophies with significant engineering and economic implications and establishing risk identification and mitigation strategies.
