Salt River Project's 825-MW Santan Expansion Earns Project of the Year Recognition

December 4, 2006 - The Salt River Project (SRP) Santan Expansion Project was recently recognized as the Best Gas-fired Project of the Year by Power Engineering magazine at Power-Gen International. The project, engineered by Sargent & Lundy, added 825-MW of cost-effective and neighborhood friendly new capacity to an existing, urban site inside the SRP power grid. The project was staged as a two-phase installation of Unit 5, a 555-MW 2x2x1 combined-cycle plant followed a year later by Unit 6, a 275-MW 1x1 combined-cycle plant. The station design incorporated multiple measures to mitigate potential aesthetic impacts as well as extensive state-of-the art environmental controls to achieve two very low-emission, high-efficiency, water-wise, and community responsible projects.
