Sargent & Lundy Awarded Contract for US ITER

Providing QA/QC support for the DOE Office of Science project

March 15, 2017 – Sargent & Lundy LLC has been awarded a contract to provide senior QA/QC support to US ITER. US ITER is a Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science project hosted by Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. The United States is a partner nation with the ITER Organization, an unprecedented international collaboration of scientists and engineers working to design, construct, and assemble a burning plasma experiment that can demonstrate the scientific and technological feasibility of nuclear fusion power for the commercial power grid.

US ITER currently has contractual arrangements with a number of suppliers (which is expected to grow) to provide items and services. The Sargent & Lundy scope includes quality assurance oversight of these suppliers at various manufacturing facilities, as well as at the facilities of contracted design services providers. QA oversight of suppliers includes auditing, surveillance; witnessing of manufacturing processes such as welding, leak testing, fabrication; and review of the supplier`s product related documentation prior to acceptance.
