Chicago Chapter of IEEE PES to Meet at Sargent & Lundy Dec. 13

Kevin Donahoe of GE Power to discuss proper commissioning to reduce protection misoperations


December 8, 2017 – The December meeting of the Chicago Chapter of the IEEE Power and Energy Society will be held at Sargent & Lundy’s Chicago office on Wednesday, Dec. 13, from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Kevin Donahoe of GE Power will present “Proper Commissioning to Reduce Protection Misoperations.”

Donahoe will present an overview of the effort by North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) System Protection and Control Subcommittee (SPCS) to help reduce the number of misoperations resulting from improper commissioning. The presentation describes a successful commissioning program and what is needed on a commissioning team; and the core elements of the protection system commissioning process are identified and detailed. The presentation also provides direction on how to commission specific protection schemes by identifying best practices and pointing out traps.

The IEEE PES Chicago Chapter alternates its monthly meetings between lunchtime meetings at Sargent & Lundy’s Chicago office and evening meetings at ComEd’s Commercial Center in Oak Brook.
