Sargent & Lundy is currently providing engineering and design services for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP), which is owned by Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC). The Barakah Site is currently under construction and is located in the western region of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Sargent & Lundy has been supporting ENEC since 2010 by providing various engineering, consultancy, and site support services through a combination of local (in-country) engineering presence and traditional support from Sargent & Lundy’s Chicago Headquarters.
BNPP features four APR1400 advanced pressurized water reactors and is targeted for a combined gross capacity of approximately 5,600 MW. The first unit is tentatively scheduled to begin commercial operation in May 2017. The site design is based on the Korean Reference Plant (Shin-Kori Site), designed and built by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).
Sargent & Lundy is actively supporting Westinghouse Electric Company on several AP1000 projects, providing engineering and site support for the base plant and station-specific designs. Our activities include the evaluation/analysis and design of containment access platforms and associated structural steel framing, as well as the auxiliary building concrete structures. Other key activities include the evaluation of structural modules for change impacts, along with qualification of electrical raceway supports and assessment of pipe rupture effects. Our code specialists have provided technical support to address ACI and AISC code compliance through compliance reviews and follow-up assistance to resolve any identified gaps. We are providing project management, scheduling, and engineering support at the Westinghouse office in Cranberry, Pa., and engineering support at the Vogtle site.
Our approach to providing digital upgrade engineering services is based on over 30 years of experience and working with a variety of vendors. We can prepare comparative analyses of digital systems to evaluate equipment options considering costs and functionality as well as create digital system conceptual design reports that determine funding costs and equipment specificity for the hardware system specification. Other services include hardware and functional specifications for the procurement of the digital control system. For modification work, we prepare full scope design change packages including installation of the replacement system.
In addition to providing comprehensive construction management and commissioning services, we also offer limited-scope CM. If you’re seeking CM help for specific tasks and objectives, a small Sargent & Lundy team or a single specialist can perform these services at a central office or site location. Some examples include constructability reviews, schedule checks and project budget reviews.
If you’re an owner or lender with limited staff, resources, or expertise, Sargent & Lundy can act as your representative. This engagement may cover an entire project or a limited review, regardless of whether our firm is the engineer on your project.
We offer surveillance services at a vendor’s facility that can help achieve quality and an expedited project timeline.
Our experienced vendor surveillance team will:
We offer engineer-procure and engineer-procure-construct bid support, developer support, and power purchaser support for competitive power project bids. In private power project competitive bidding processes, we can work on behalf of a bidding project sponsor or for the power purchaser who is securing power supplies from a private power organization.
Sargent & Lundy can help identify, evaluate, select, and implement plant technologies, as well as assist with site assessment and other critical development and planning tasks. Our goal with every project is to work seamlessly and collaboratively with your organization, providing services from feasibility to site selection to construction management and startup, and everything in between.
