Sargent & Lundy is currently providing engineering and design services for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP), which is owned by Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC). The Barakah Site is currently under construction and is located in the western region of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Sargent & Lundy has been supporting ENEC since 2010 by providing various engineering, consultancy, and site support services through a combination of local (in-country) engineering presence and traditional support from Sargent & Lundy’s Chicago Headquarters.
BNPP features four APR1400 advanced pressurized water reactors and is targeted for a combined gross capacity of approximately 5,600 MW. The first unit is tentatively scheduled to begin commercial operation in May 2017. The site design is based on the Korean Reference Plant (Shin-Kori Site), designed and built by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).
Sargent & Lundy is actively supporting Westinghouse Electric Company on several AP1000 projects, providing engineering and site support for the base plant and station-specific designs. Our activities include the evaluation/analysis and design of containment access platforms and associated structural steel framing, as well as the auxiliary building concrete structures. Other key activities include the evaluation of structural modules for change impacts, along with qualification of electrical raceway supports and assessment of pipe rupture effects. Our code specialists have provided technical support to address ACI and AISC code compliance through compliance reviews and follow-up assistance to resolve any identified gaps. We are providing project management, scheduling, and engineering support at the Westinghouse office in Cranberry, Pa., and engineering support at the Vogtle site.
